Etaoin Melville

Etaoin Melville is a visual artist working and  living in Cork.  Using colour and form as abstract emotional expression she seeks to interrogate the complexity of female experience. In collaboration with circus performance, musical composition, stop frame animation and videography the work manifests as live performance, film and exhibition art.

The research looks into the old and the new of domestic life; the conflict between instinctual experience and societal expectation: often using humour to create art in a state of  improvisation, spontaneity and lightness.

Her work over the past three years explores the changing roles of mother and daughter, whilst reflecting the theme of lineage to gain perspective on these shifting identities. This body of work has manifested in collaboration with Linda Cullen, fusing visual art with vertical dance for a performance. Followed by two solo exhibitions of work along the same theme, 2024.

The McSweeney brothers are an independent filmmaking and comedy duo who have been making zero budget films together for over four years since they started their “McSweeney Films” YouTube channel back in 2020. What started as just a lockdown hobby quickly developed into a true passion for comedy and filmmaking which they’ve both been pursuing ever since.

David is an actor and stand up comedian who studied filmmaking at Cork College of FET Douglas Street Campus for two years. Graham is a writer, director and editor and has been working as a freelance editor for nearly two years.

Together they have made dozens of comedy sketches and short films, notably Plight of the Pintman (2023) and Waiting for You (2022), the latter of which was featured at last year’s IndieCork Film Festival.

As well as being the co-owners of McSweeney Films, Graham and David have both been committee members of The People’s Picturehouse since it started last August and have had much of their work featured in its monthly filmmaking showcases.
